Thanks for the link, Dee--Jamie's letter is an excellent read. I haven't had a chance to see the book yet (ALD has it on order) but one thing I gathered from the reviews is that it seems to be a story in which the nature of the relationship is incidental. These types of books are always great milestones in diversity literature!
Thanks for posting this. I haven't read the book yet, but I appreciate the fact that the controversial part of the story is secondary. I personally think that's the best way to break ground. I love Jamie's blog and my favorite quote from this particular post: "Library collections don't imply endorsement; they imply access to the many different ideas of our culture, which is precisely our purpose in public life."
I admire Jamie's stand on this. As he states at the end of his letter, there are gay parents in Douglas County that are tax payers and should be able to find information that supports their interests. A library is a place for information and we should carry information for both sides of an issue. I also liked the part of his blog that all children's material should involve parental guidance.

I agree I think it is great to be aware of what is out there, so we can field those questions from both sides.
