Do you know this book?

I just finished listening to a great book! Then I went out and bought two paperback copies so that I could give it to others! This is a book the whole family would enjoy reading together when the youngest is about 7 or 8. It has love, friendship and fun, and I found myself laughing out loud at some of the situations. It also includes greed, intolerance and death that made me cry. The characters are very real and memorable as is the entire story built around an historical occurence that took place in 1912 in Maine. Lizzie Bright and the Buckminster Boy by Gary Schmidt was a Newbery Runner Up and a 2005 Prinz Award Honor Book. Try it and let me know your opinion!

I needed a new audio book so I'm trying this one. I'll get back to you.

When we use to make bookmarks and bibs, I added this book. I enjoyed the book so much I wanted everyone to read it.

I really enjoyed this one, too, although it would send my oldest daughter into the depths of despair if we read it together. I might let her discover it on her own when she's older...

I loved it! The narration is excellent. Schmidt's descriptions are unique and especially effective for both a younger and older audience. No small feat. But I had to cheat and read to the end after 5 discs because I couldn't wait until the next time I had to drive somewhere. Now I'm listening to the end because I think the narrator does give this story a little something extra. It was a surprisingly sad ending, though, wasn't it? My 14 yr. old listened to some of it and was not pleased with the outcome...
